mafi produces completely ecological, healthy, living natural wood floors, and is the international pioneer in sustainable and pollutant-free wood flooring. The floors are manufactured exclusively in Austria and distributed through subsidiary mafi America Inc.
Despite our belief that the color of a wood floor is not the most important quality and only a biproduct of the high expectations we put in our sustainable products, mafi offers a wide range of natural oiled surfaces, from almost white to almost black and a lot in-between. mafi wood is the quintessence of a truly biophilic design approach.
mafi was the first company in the industry to opt for a no-compromise, lacquer-free, purely natural oiled flooring surface. The oils are natural, make mafi products more ecological than polyurethane floors and are easy to clean with natural soaps and hot water.
mafi floors do not need to be sanded. In residential and commercial projects, mafi floors only need a proper washing that cleans and reoils the floor in one process.
People spend about 90% of their day indoors. The intensity of the effects from materials used in the rooms on the people has never been higher. There are myriad certification structures in the building products industry. Certificates can be a confusing labyrinth of acronyms and requirements. mafi has been doing the most common-sense and lawful protection of resources, producing a completely natural product with maximum efficiency by using a business model for 101 years. We believe that it is of utmost importance to earn a certificate that prove our claims of conservation, efficiency and responsibility and that also highlights the differences between our company and the competition.
The Living Product Challenge, through the International Living Future Institute, is the most stringent certification platform. This confirms that we use power from renewable sources, as well as our stewardship of the natural resource wood, using only Red List-free ingredients, reducing and recycling to a zero waste policy, and providing our employees with a happy workplace and great benefits.
We use this process to create a platform that architects can employ for total project transparency in interior products industry-wide.
